High School teacher Mark Lampman who resigned after he was accused of raping a female student, has now allegedly taken his own life. He is about the fifth staff according to Ny daily news who has been accused of such allegations.  These staff members are often forced to resignation or received paid leave while investigations continue. According to reports  the convictions  of some of the staff is if proven guilty could carry 20 year prison sentences.


A longtime teacher at Permian High School in Odessa, the school made famous in the book “Friday Night Lights,” committed suicide a day after allegations of an improper relationship with a student surfaced.

Mark Lampman taught government and coached girls’ golf at Permian High School in Odessa for 17 years.

School officials didn’t detail his alleged relationship with a female student, but called it improper.

School district spokesman Mike Adkins said the school learned of the accusation Tuesday.

Lampman resigned after being questioned, he said.

Lampman, 47, died Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Ector County Sheriff’s Office said.

A woman who answered the phone at Lampman’s home declined comment.

Two accused former staffers are awaiting trial, and police are investigating allegations against two others.
