A former janitor at Forest Hill High School is facing a rape charge.

Lenell McGee surrendered Thursday at Hinds County Sheriff’s Department on a warrant from the Jackson Police Department, authorities said.

The incident came to light in March when a Forest Hill student walked into the school and began crying. She told school officials that McGee had taken her to a hotel and had sex with her, investigators said.

Jackson Public Schools launched an investigation and turned over the case to JPD. McGee resigned from his custodial position last month.

McGee was arraigned Friday and was given a $50,000 bond, court officials said. He was out of the Hinds County Detention Center on Friday night.

It’s not clear when McGee will appear in court.

McGee also worked as a pastor at Livingston Greater Missionary Baptist Church. Officials at the church could not be reached for comment.
